Online Individual Therapy for Arizona Adults

Trauma-Informed, EMDR-Trained, LGBTQ+ Affirming Therapy

HI, I’m Cody

Hi, I’m Cody Merrell, LCSW. I provide individual therapy for adults through my practice, New Heights Counseling, offering secure telehealth sessions for clients located across Arizona.

I work with adults navigating anxiety, trauma, perfectionism, identity, and life transitions. Many of the people who reach out are rebuilding a sense of direction after environments or experiences that felt restrictive, high-pressure, or non-affirming.

I provide online therapy for adults located across Arizona, including Phoenix, Scottsdale, Mesa, Tucson, and surrounding communities.

Therapy with me is collaborative, steady, and grounded in respect. My goal is to help you develop a clearer relationship with yourself and move toward a life that feels more authentic, stable, and connected.

If you’re considering therapy, you’re welcome to schedule a free 15-minute consultation. This gives us an opportunity to briefly talk about what you’re looking for and determine whether working together feels like a good fit.

Sessions are held through secure video telehealth, allowing you to attend therapy from anywhere in Arizona where you have privacy and a stable internet connection.

Many clients find that telehealth offers flexibility and consistency while still allowing for meaningful therapeutic work.

Who I Work With

I work with adults who are navigating things like:

  • Anxiety, stress, and overwhelm

  • Perfectionism and harsh self-criticism

  • Identity and belonging, including LGBTQ+ experiences

  • Recovering from high-demand or non-affirming environments

  • Trauma and the lasting impact of difficult life experiences

  • Life transitions, relationships, and patterns that keep repeating

You do not have to have the “perfect reason” to start therapy. If something feels stuck or heavy, that is enough.

My Approach

Therapy is steady, collaborative, and grounded in respect for your autonomy. We explore how patterns developed and how they may be connected to past experiences, identity, or environments that shaped you.

I integrate trauma-informed and evidence-informed approaches, including EMDR when appropriate. The pace is intentional. We begin by building stability and clarity, then move toward deeper work when it feels right.

The goal is not perfection or constant productivity. It is developing greater self-understanding, flexibility, and a way of relating to yourself that feels more sustainable.

Fees

Initial Assessment: $200

Therapy sessions: $185

New clients begin with an initial assessment session, where we spend time understanding what brings you to therapy, reviewing relevant background, and beginning to clarify goals for our work together.

Insurance

At this time, insurance is not accepted for clients located in Arizona, and services for Arizona residents are offered on a self-pay basis.

Out-of-Network Reimbursement

Some clients choose to seek out-of-network reimbursement from their insurance provider. If helpful, I can provide documentation (often called a superbill) that you may submit to your insurance company for possible reimbursement.

Because insurance plans vary widely, clients are responsible for verifying their out-of-network benefits and reimbursement eligibility directly with their insurance provider.

Getting Started

Starting therapy does not need to feel complicated.

1. Consultation
We begin with a brief 15-minute consultation to see whether working together feels like a good fit.

2. Initial Session
If you decide to move forward, we schedule an initial assessment to better understand your goals and concerns.

3. Ongoing Therapy
From there, we begin ongoing individual sessions, typically 50 minutes, focused on the work we identify together.

Sessions are provided via secure telehealth for clients located in Arizona.

Arizona services are self-pay. Insurance is not accepted for clients located in Arizona at this time.
